New Faces & Ivy's Decision

As the chairman of the Neighborhood Watch program, it was Suzie Scorpio's job to talk to the residents from time to time, make sure they know how to take proper safety precautions, and that they are keeping their homes and families safe from the crime wave that was taking over the city. Today, she was visiting the Jagger household, where she met Jesse Jagger for the first time.

After talking to him, and finding that he lived with his two brothers, she asked to meet with them as well. While his youngest brother was at work, his older brother was in fact home but, as he would tell her, he was "busy".

As she turned around to leave, she caught a glimpse of three people sitting at the table. She recognized all three of them: Brandi Broke, a guy named Holden, but... she couldn't place where she knew the man with the hat. Hmm, she thought to herself as she was heading for the door, very interesting.

After everyone had left, the brothers settled down for dinner together.

That girl that was here - the one asking all the safety questions - she was looking at you funny. Any chance she knows who you are?

The man in the hat took a bite of his dinner, took his time chewing it, and swallowed it before answering his brother. Without looking up he said:
Not a chance. There's only one person I know in this town, and that wasn't her.

Kate had the day off, and decided to spend it hanging out with her good friend Ivy. She couldn't help but notice the belly that was starting to protude out from under Ivy's t-shirt.

Ivy? How are things with you and Elmer? Everything going ok?
Kate realized she was staring at Ivy's tummy, but she couldn't help herself.

Yo. Kate. My eyes are up here toots.
She points to her eyes in an effort to get Kate's attention off of her stomach. She realized that she had gained some weight - and she knew why. The test she had taken that morning confirmed her worst fear. She was in no position to raise a child. Heck, she was just a big kid herself. But the other "options", weren't options for Ivy. She was going to be a mother. She just had to accept that.

And now, she'd have to decide just how serious she should get with Elmer. It was fun living with him. He loved to goof off, he never tried to tie her down or tell her what to do and - well - they had a pretty good physical relationship as well as an emotional one. But, in all the time they had been together, Elmer had never told Ivy that he loved her, and she had been grateful of that. To her, that was like signing the Relationship Death Warrant. But now - now it was all changing. She was going to have a baby. She felt like a child should have both parents that truly love each other, but then again a lot of single moms are very successful in raising happy, healthy children on their own. Ivy knew she really could love Elmer, if she let herself...but, did she want to love him?

Ivy was stuck, and she knew it.

Ivy decided to tell Elmer about the baby, and she'd take on the decision of the relationship another day.

Like all the other days, Elmer came home from work, walked over to Ivy and gave her a kiss on her cheek. But today he'd do one more thing that she wasn't expecting.

As his lips brushed past her ear, he whispered:
I love you Ivy.

Ivy was stunned.
He loves me?
The room started spinning, and before she knew it, Elmer was helping her onto the couch.

You ok Ivy? You looked a little faint there.

Yeah I'm ok. I must have skipped lunch or something.

Elmer got up and got Ivy a drink of cold water. As he sat down next to her and handed her the drink, he told her about his favorite great aunt.

You know Ivy, when I was a child I had a favorite great aunt. We called her Auntie Flo. She was a very smart woman with an amazing attention to detail. She'd noticed everything. I remember her walking into my house one day, taking one look at my mother, then hugging her tightly and congratulating her on the baby she'd be having. My mother told her she was crazy - that she wasn't even pregnant, but 7 1/2 months later, my little brother was born.

Ivy didn't like where this was going, but she tried to hide her nervousness.

When I asked her how she knew, she said that an expectant mother has a special glow that other women can never duplicate.

He turned towards Ivy, took the drink out of her hands and placed it on the floor. As he held her hands in his, he said:
Ivy, you're glowing, and I love it.

Great. And he has to go and be wonderful about it too. As Ivy hugged Elmer she thought to herself, Could he possibly make this decision any tougher at all?

That night, after Ivy had fallen asleep, Elmer took a long hard look in the mirror.

Well buddy boy, you're going to be a Dad. Guess it's time to cut all this hair off and grow up.

He reached down for the scissors, and started cutting.

Mmm, yummy Jesse. *wipes the corners of her mouth* I do know who the mysterious man is with the hat, since I'm caught up with the Ridgeways, but I can't wait to find out his story! Rough decision for Ivy there, to settle down with Elmer or raise her kid on her own. You go, Elmer!! That's awesome that he's being so mature about it. :-D
